Sightseeing

There are many places to visit in Potsdam, especially parks, palaces and old city building. Please browse around the official pages to get a good impression what might be worth a visit.

Germany's capital and largest city is just next to Berlin and offers a huge variety of entertainment and places to visit.

Just before Christmas, there are dozens of "Christmas markets" found literally in every town or city. In central Potsdam the market starts at Luisenplatz (near Potsdam's Brandenburger Gate) and carries on along Brandenburger Straße (pedestrian area). This area is easily being reachable by foot with about 10-20 minutes.

Shopping

There are several possibilities for shopping in central Potsdam and many more in Berlin. For brevity, here is just a short list of shopping sites:

Potsdam, Brandenburger Straße
Many small shops for cloths, shoes and souvenirs. Nice area to walk around, especially now with the Christmas market. There is a small supermarket on the eastern end of the pedestrian area (Kaisers), a larger department store (Karstadt) can also be found on the eastern half of this area.
Potsdam, main station (Potsdam Hauptbahnhof/Hbf)
There are a few smaller shops here, a cinema, an electronics supermarket (MediMax), as well as a larger, quite cheap supermarket (Kaufland)
Potsdam, Markt Center
Roughly south of Luisenplatz there is this small shopping mall.
Potsdam, Stern Center
Potsdam's largest shopping mall with shops and a large supermarket. Unfortunately, it takes a while to reach by public transport.
Berlin, Ku'damm
One of Berlin's most famous shopping areas, where price tags can be quite large. But nevertheless always worth a visit.
Berlin, Friedrichstraße
Another area where a lot of good quality shops can be found.
